Howard Teruo's Story
Hi everyone from the class of '53. Pray you and your family are in good health. I still have fond memories of life at Ogden High, in particular, time spent on the football team playing tailback. Since then, life has been good to me. After Ogden High, I spent a year at Weber (when it was located on 25th and Adams), then joined the U.S. Army for three years, at which time the government trained me as Japanese linguist and assigned me to Tokyo, where I came to appreciate my cultural roots and to get serious about my future career. After my three-year tour in the military, as a civilian in Japan, I met and married Chieko, a lady I've now been married to for over 60 years. In order to complete my education, I returned to Ogden for a year to finish out the associate of science degree at Weber, and then enrolled at the University of Southern California where I acquired my B.A. in international relations, and MBA in management. Work wise, I've received training and skills working for the Japanese Consulate as aid to the consul general, and moved on to further develop my career working for a major retail chain, as a unit manager. ege in San Bernardino (SBVC), where I chaired the marketing management program and taught business law courses. While employed at SBVC, I enrolled at Western State University of Law, where I acquired my J.D., which certified me to teach those law courses. While still employed full time at SBVC, I passed the California bar exam and worked independently as an attorney specializing in personal injury cases. After having served as educator for over 25 years, I retired from that field and have been spending time practicing law in Orange County, where my wife and I now reside (for over 20 years). In the year 2017, I acquired my Ph.D. in Public Policy and Administration at the Walden University, having researched and written my dissertation on the effects of decision models on implementation of shared governance at California community colleges. My wife and I raised four children, all of whom are college educated, married, and making good money. Did I ever say, life has been good to me? Indeed, I am blessed. I hope the same for everyone from the class of '53. Take care and stay safe. Your enduring classmate, Howard
